Greek Theatre Contract: Corruption in L.A. City Hall?

In answering my subject line rhetorical question: To quote Justice Potter Stewart: "I know it when I see it."

Mayor Gives Out Tickets

Look, the final decision does not rest with the Rec&Parks Commission; it rests with the city council and then the mayor. How long ago was it when it came out that 12 out of the 15 council offices got freebies to the Labor Day Weekend concerts at Grand Park?

Free Tickets

I knew then and I am damn sure others like me did too, that the sole reason they gave them the freebies was to set them up for when the city council votes on the new contract.

GD how I detest this sh*t in CH. At this point, it is not even subtle corruption.

Is Eric a crook?

I don't think so. Are people in his inner-circle...ethically challenged? City council? Staffers?

Does the sun rise in the east and set in the west?

The only difference between L.A. for the past 25 years and Chicago during the Capone Era is the lack of machine guns.

Nederlander has done a wonderful job managing the Greek for many years. The people most impacted by traffic and the shows during concert season (the neighbors) overwhelmingly support Nederlander. Yet unless the MOST IMPORTANT PERSON IN THE PROCESS (Tom LaBonge, who has long represented the area home to the Greek and Griffith Park) signals he supports Nederlander, Live Nation and their $$$$$ will have BOUGHT the new contract by virtue of their purchase of City Hall in general.

Moreover, it should not be ignored that a very powerful attorney who was a Jim Hahn appointee to the Rec&Parks Commission the last time the contract was up for bid (Lisa Specht), along with her law firm (Manatt, Phelps & Phillips) has now gone over to LN. Manatt's client list on their web site includes AEG and Ticketmaster, but not LN. AEG as you know is partnered with Nederlander, while TM is allied with LN.

Oh by the way, back then Lisa voted as a commissioner for NEDERLANDER.

Is there ANYONE in our "honorable" government in City Hall besides Controller Ron Galperin who does not emit a stench? More and more, I feel that just keeping abreast of local government makes me want to take a continuous shower.
